Today's version of My Shoes Are Awesome

This was actually supposed to post yesterday but my phone and Blogger seem to have a tumultuous relationship and I guess this time the phone won the argument. You may remember another awesome pair of shoes that I needed to blog about in the original My Shoes Are Awesome Post.
I 100% believe that shoes can make or break your day. Kind of like underwear only the whole world can see your shoes (and hopefully not your underooos). When I wear amazing shoes I just feel more confident....fierce in Tyra Speak. My friend asked me if I was "smizing" at people (more Tyra Speake) and you know what? I totally was! Only mostly men in work trucks that I thought might smize back. Just for fun, you know?
I might have to make awesome shoes a more regular segment so that I can rationalize buying them. Who supports this idea?

My shoes are awesome

Odd angle but how great are these shoes?? When all else fails, wear amazing shoes and you will feel better about the world.

Skinny Jeans

I finally bought skinny jeans. It's a trend I have been avoiding, hoping it would go away. While leggings are totally acceptable, skinny jeans are too close to "pegging" your jeans circa 1987. But I was really left with no choice; the store I like to get my jeans from which, admittedly, is really marketed at teens, ONLY sells skinny jeans. Oh, wait, or superskinny jeans. I even asked for some flares or bootcuts they might have in the back. Oh no, they don't even produce such antiques anymore!
This is when it dawned on me.....I have finally reached the age I have dreaded since I was a kid. I'm officially that girl lady. The one who clings to the fashions that were "cool" when she was young. I always felt bad for the women still wearing scrunchies but now I realize I could be classified among them for yearning for my flare cut jeans. I'm sorry but flare jeans were so much more slimming for the masses than so called skinny jeans. If there were a way to petition to bring them back, I would carry it around on a clipboard and harass strangers to sign it.
But since that's not an option, not only did I buy a pair of skinny jeans, I also bought a pair of "jeggings". Yup. Jean Leggings. And I have to sing their praises...they are exactly how I thought pajama jeans would feel! I kind of want to live in them.
It's totally sad that not only do I shop at the same store preferred by my 11 year old niece but I think I bought the same jeggings as she did. Is this what a female mid life thirtygirly crisis looks like?

Vacation Discrimination

I'm officially coining the term "vacation discrimination". I have experienced it and it is real. It is when people judge you or hate on you for having cooler vacations than they have. Here's an example from yesterday:
Work announced some major cuts to our benefits that will hurt my already weakly padded wallet. I mentioned this to someone and got the response "you have had more international trips in the last year than anyone I know so I don't feel bad for you". Really??
Travel is a lifestyle choice. Some people spend a lot of money on fancy cars or clothes or designer purses. Some people go out for decadent meals. Others drink their money away at the local pub. A lot of people my age have children who cost a lot to clothe and feed. I don't have or do any of those things. I prioritize seeing new places and making memories that way. Why is it acceptable not only to judge that choice but to verbalize it to me?? Do I say, "Hey, nice khakis! Bet those cost you a pretty penny. Just for that, if you have to join the working poor, you won't get my sympathy!"? No, because the way we spend our money reflects our values and the ways we rejuvenate ourselves. Who says my values have to match yours?

Whiney Wednesday

Today is a drag. I had to wake up at what I consider an insane hour. I won't bother to mention the time because all the mothers will yell at me about how they get up earlier every day. I know. That's why I'm not one of you.

It's raining and nasty outside and I was really proud that I found my rain jacket because I couldn't find it when I went hiking. I drove my usual, long commute to get to court, which I like other than the time it starts. I consider it the theater of the living. I situated my rain jacket proudly and exited my car to walk into court. Instead of walking around the guardrail and taking a long, rainy stroll through the parking lot, I climbed over the guardrail. Ummmm, the wet guardrail. So my head was dry but my pants looked like I had too much to drink and couldn't get to a restroom in time.

Now, I should add that my whole ensemble for the day was already pretty drab. When I go the court against someone I think is a bad guy, I try to be as unmemorable as possible. Frumpy and forgettable is my goal and I think I did well today-two t shirts, a bulky sweater, a big scarf, wide leg pants, a ponytail, no makeup and all blue and brown tones. good?

So, I spent four hours in the theater of the living and got desirable outcomes, thankfully. Then I went and got gas.....$51.00 to fill a Ford Focus!!! That's crazy talk!

With that, I will just say "Wednesday, I have had enough of you for this week."
